BLADES WIN NOTT'S FOREST LABOR DAY CUP 2010
FC Blades BU9 B01 brought home their second tournament title of the summer
winning the Nott’s Forest Labor Day Cup 2010. The team dominated the
tournament with a 4-1-0 record. The team started strong with a 4-2 win over
Scripps United, a 2-2 draw against Carlsbad Wave BU9 Black, and 5-0 win
over San Diego BU9. In the semi-finals, FC Blades played an impressive game
beating Heat FC White 5-1. Goals scored by Kenny Bairin, Mason Hope, Jackson Lester,
Kenny Nielsen, Brandon Stoliar, and Johnny Williamson. Jackson Lester and Theo Kim
were amazing in goal with several saves over the course of five games, behind a
brick wall defense. The midfield controlled the middle of the field and dominated
possession the entire weekend.
The final against Carlsbad Wave BU9 Black started off with a bang. Kenny “Rooney”
Nielsen scored from the midfield line ten seconds into the game to give the FC Blades
an earlier 1-0 lead. Lorenzo Di Cioccio added a second goal a few minutes later to make
it 2-0. After giving up a goal, to make it 2-1, Kento Zollinger hit a strike from the
right side of the box to give the team a 3-1 lead. The second half saw Kenny
Bairin dribble pass several defenders and score giving the Blades a commanding
4-1 lead. Carlsbad Wave BU9 Black stormed back to cut the lead to 4-3.
Johnny Williamson put the game away with a beautiful strike from the top
of the 18 yard box.
