Blades Bu10 Red Take Home Title at Wolfpack Invitational

Over the weekend of July 10-11 the Boys u10 Red brought home their second tournament title winning the Wolfpack Invitational. The boys capped a tremendous tournament run with a 3-2 victory over the Fullerton Rangers in the final.

The tournament started Saturday morning with a hard fought victory over Real Madrid; the 1-0 win avenged a 5-2 Spring Cup loss to this same team.  The game deciding goal was scored in the first half by Johnny Williamson. Then the defense led by Connor O’brien in the middle and flanked by Cole Martin, Joshua Sohn, and Justin Wiher shut down Real Madrid to help keeper Justin Loranger register a clean sheet.

The second game against United FC Black was a much higher scoring affair that ended in a 3-3 draw.  All 6 goals were scored in the first half that featured a wide open attack for both teams. Alex Desbans scored twice and Johnny Williamson added one for the Blades. The second half became a midfield battle where Ian Howard, Timmy Woo-Sam and Connor Dang led the valiant effort but goals proved tough to come by for both teams and the game ended in a tie.

The Blades entered their third game of the tournament knowing a win would put them through to the final and came out determined to do just that. This determination led to an incredible goal scoring barrage and a 6-0 win over HB Xtreme. Alex Desbans led the scoring charge by netting three goals to celebrate a hat-trick. Johnny Williamson scored his third goal of the tournament and Jared Wu netted his first on a brilliant finish. The final goal of the game was scored by Justin Wiher, who headed in a corner kick to claim the prize offered by Coach Scott Hamilton for anyone who headed a goal in off a corner. Justin Loranger and Connor Dang combined in goal to get the shut-out.

The final against the Fullerton Rangers was a tale of two halves. The first half was dominated by the Blades who created numerous chances but managed to finish just twice. With a 2-0 lead the Blades faced a very determined Ranger team in the second half who came back to tie the game 2-2. With time running out the boys began to pressure again, Timmy Woo-Sam followed in a hard-shot and when the keeper was unable to hold it he knocked in the rebound for the game winner.

Coach Scott Hamilton commented after the game, “Our guys played some awesome soccer throughout all of our games and the victory was well deserved!” This tournament kicks off a great start to the summer as the boys prepare for their first season playing Silver in the fall.
