FC Blades Wins THREE Cal Cup CHAMPIONSHIPS in 2010

It's been a great showing for FC Blades in Cal Cup this year.  It all started on Feb 28th with GU9, coached by Andy Winn, beat Pateadores 6-2 to clinch the first of 3 Championship trophies. Next it was GU11, coached by Tim Woodcock.  They beat South Coast Bayern 4-3 in extra time, to secure their win.  Last Sunday, April 18th. FC Blades GU16, coacehd by Dave Brown, made it a 'Hat trick' on Cal Cup wins when they beat Juventus 3-1 ad make 2010 a memorable year for FC Blades.


BU12  Wins at West Coast Futbol Classic

FC Blades BU-12 team overcame a very determined Arsenal FC squad, 2-0, to take home the Flight 2 title at the West Coast Futbol Classic on Sunday.  "Our passing and movement on and off the ball, coupled with our finishing was probably the best I've seen from the boys," Blades Coach George Deverrick said. "Our level of play throughout the tournament was exceptional and after the disappointment of losing in the Slammers Cup Final last month, all the hard work at practice paid off as this victory was richly deserved."

GU12 Takes Crown City Classic Tournament Champion

Blades GU12 headed south and came home with the championship trophy at the 2009 Coronado Crown City Classic.  The girls beat North County Tidal Wave 3-1, Nado Select 2-1 and lost to FC Heat 0-3.  In the finals, a rematch with FC Heat, Blades adjusted its passing game to short connections and eventually led to a 1-0 win for the championship. BU9 Red Crowned Champions at Crown City Classic

On the beautiful island of Coronado with clear skies, ocean views and cool breezes the Blades Boys U9 Red took home their first ever tournament championship defeating the host NADO in nail biting fashion - penalty kicks. These two teams had battled to a 2-2 draw on Saturday morning in a well contested match before meeting again in the final on Sunday afternoon where, again, they ended regulation in a 2-2 tie. Blades BU9 White Earns Oaks Polo Classic Finalist

FC blades BU-9 White team ended a fantastic weekend of soccer by reaching the final of this weekend's Oaks Polo Classic in only their second-ever tournament.  Coach Scott Hamilton was extremely pleased with the effort on show during all the games. Find out how they did here.






Blades GU9 Takes Oaks Polo Classic Champions

Hot off their AUSC Soccerfes penalty shootout heartbreak and their convincing Fullerton Rangers Summer Classic championship, the FC Blades GU9s continued their run of impressive results with another title at the Oaks Polo Fields Classic.  See complete story here.







GU-13 team won the gold bracket of Soccerfest 2009 in Whittier played June 28th and 29th.  The Blades captured the title after defeating AC Brea 1-0 in the championship game Sunday afternoon to return home with the cup. GU-8 team came within an inch of claiming the AUSC Soccerfest title.  The team's weekend started with a narrow 2-1 victory over Chelsea Black.  In the afternoon heat they faced off with Arsenal and narrowly lost 0-1.  However, their place in the semi-final had been assured and Sunday morning the girls refreshed tore into FC Barcelona triumphing 6-1 for a place in the final.

Blades GU-10 Win at Oaks Polo Fields Classic

FC Blades GU-10 team won the 5th annual Oaks Polo Fields Classic to capture their second tournament title of the summer. In four tournament games, the Blades scored fourteen goals and conceded just one, to Slammers White, who the team defeated 3-1 in the final game.  Read the details.





Blades GU9 Have a Good Time with 9

Playing with only nine players in temperatures near 100-degrees, the FC Blades GU9s blazed through the Fullerton Rangers Summer Classic competition, notching 19 goals while conceding only four in winning their bracket championship.  See the amazing story here.







B97 Impresses in Slammers Final

B97 team earns Finalist in the Slammers Classic this past weeend.  In what was a wonderful final, the Slammers finally broke the deadlock in the first period of overtime and hung on to claim victory over a vastly improved Blades team that they had met in the pool game the day before. Coach George Deverrick stated, "Without doubt, the boys' performace in the final was exceptional ...... Their character, effort, attitude and desire was unbelievable."

FC Blades G96 Won Wolfpack Invitational Title

Playing against SAS Kickers in the championship game, the Blades again kept their composure in stifling conditions and produced a great display of passing, finishing and exceptional defensive play, which was their hallmark of success for the weekend. The blades hit the crossbar from a Giana Teresi 30yard shot and also missed a pk and while they had several chances to win in regulation, a combination of fine goalkeeping from the Kickers and near chances took the game to pks. Carly Agopian saved the Kickers first shot and Hanna Ghamari, Allie Bruno, Piper Pugh and Giana Teresi all scored to seal the win.  See full story.



GU9 team swept the field at the AUSC Soccerfest tournament over the weekend, capturing the championship with a perfect 4-0 record.  The Blades defeated host, AUSC Blue 3-2 and Arsenal FC White 3-1 to win their pool. In the semi-finals, the team outlasted NCP Thunder 3-2 before clinching the championship with a 3-1 victory in a rematch with AUSC Blue. Read full story. 

 

FC Blades Wins 3 Champions in CSL Spring Cup

BU9 team took their time in settling down during the spring season. Their Spring League campaign had its ups and downs, however, they came in strongly during the Spring Cup to win the Flight 3 of the Boys U9 division. Read full story. 




GU-11 team won back-to-back Spring Cup titles. Goal-keeper, Hamster, was named player of the game and was instrumental in securing the 2-1 win over Fram CQ. Time after time, she charged into the fray to rob Fram CQ of a goal.

GU15 team hammered home Spring Cup Title with a goal by Hannah Hildebrand in a 1-0 victory vs FC Long Beach Sunday in the final. Hildebrand also accounted for the Blades goal in Saturday's 1-1 tie against Juventes FC. Coach Dave Brown beamed about the team's all-around effort in victory.

FC Blades G98 Take DBWV Winter Shootout

The conditions were wet and muddy, but that did not stop the Blades from outscoring their opponents 15-7. In steady rain on Saturday morning, the Blades defeated the Freedom Northstars 3-0 in game 1. Powerful defense was offered by Vickie Chen, Janis Jin, Sydney Griffith and  Brie Ratkevich. Read all game reports here.  

 FC Blades BU10 Red Take DBWV Winter Shootout Champions!!

The FC Blades Boys U10 team led by Coach Glen Gamble and new coach Rick Hadwick took the field in unusually wet Californian weather to compete in the Diamond Bar Walnut Valley Winter Shootout. 

Their first game saw them against Crown City United and it didn't take long for the Blades boys to take control of the game. Strong midfield and defensive work was rewarded early on as the Blades went into a 3-0 half time lead. Upfront Lekhan supported by midfield play from Josh, Trevor, Hayden, Koby and Noah sliced through the Crown City defense.

FC Blades GU8 Take Back-to-Back Championships

Hot on the heels of their Legends Cup 09' success, the GU8 took the Rich Bailey Girls Friendship Tournament by storm. Over a 4 game weekend, the marauding Blades scored 18 and conceded 5...A 3-3 tie against GI Janes in their opening game sparked the girls into life. Saddleback United were helpless as Blades recorded an 8-0 triumph.  See full story here.

FC Blades GU8 Take Prestigious Legends Cup 09' Gold Division

A determined FC Blades GU8 team blew away the competition at the Legends Cup 09'(1/17 - 1/18), scoring 23 goals and conceding just 7 over 4 games. The girls began with a 4-2 victory over hosts Legends FC. Later that day the girls faced Legends FC Black and the girls produced some great soccer to win 9-1.  (See full story)

FC Blades Girls Under-10 Win Nott's Forest Labor Day Cup

Outscoring their opponents 15 – 2 the FC Blades Girls Under-10 team put on a tour-de-force to win the Nott’s Forest Labor Day Tournament.  Outstanding performances were put on by the entire team with 7 girls contributing goals including Roya Leuteritz with 4, Kaylee Fukumoto and Ellie Kim with 3 each, JJ Riddle with 2 and Sydney Griffith, Janis Jin and Mima Mirkovik with one a piece.  Claudia Hodgetts made outstanding contributions to both the offensive and defensive efforts over the course of the weekend.  Gabrielle Klimon exhibited skills seen from no other player on the field to create numerous scoring opportunities for her team.  Vicki Chen was a force to be reckoned with as sweeper allowing keepers Mima Mirkovik and Meghan Siemers plenty of time to rest in the goal, though both keepers made big contributions over the course of the weekend.  Jess Stevens offered lots of hustle and heart, contributing to the outstanding offensive efforts of the team.  Over 5 games the girls enjoyed three shutouts including a 4-0 victory to win the tournament on Monday.

FC Blades BU12 Win Prestigious NHB Cup (Flight 2)

In six games over 3 days, FC Blades BU12 faced some of the best Silver Elite Teams in California – over coming in the knockout stage - Real So Cal;  Santa Monica United and then LAFC in the nail biting final. Blades snatched the Cup from LAFC after extra time and winning the PKs 5:4!  With the second tournament win of the summer the Blades BU12 team is ready to see off the Silver Elite competition in league play to push for Gold!

Girls U9 Claim Back to Back Championships!

Hot on the heels of their California Cup success, the GU9 took the San Diego Premier Classic by storm.  The girls' amazing run has seen them now go 9 games without conceding a goal and scoring 37 - claiming back to back tournament championships.   Read more ...

Boys U8 Win Back to Back Championships!

The FC Blades boys under 8 team, coached by Ben Forey, made a strong showing as they clinched the championships at both the Crown City Classic in Coronado and the Premier Classic in San Diego. The team was undefeated throughout both tournaments. It was a marvelous team effort with all boys contributing to the wins. Congratulations to Michael, Cameron G., Ian, Cole, Lee, Connor, Cameron S., Justin, Joey, Aiden and Devin.

Boys U10 Win Coronado Crown Classic Championship

The first two games saw the team win comfortably 8-0 and then 10-2.  On Sunday the boys came up against some stiffer competition but came away with 3-2 and 3-1 vitories to secure the championship.

Boys U11 Earn Finalist in Fullerton Rangers Classic

After fantastic pool play throughout the weekend, the FC Blades BU11 team earned their way into the finals of the Fullerton Rangers Summer Classic BU11 Gold Bracket.  The boys made a strong showing in their first match against United FC with a decisive victory 5-0.

Boys U9 Take Title in Fullerton Classic

A team of brave players from FC Blades BU9 won the 2008 Fullerton Rangers Championship in the gold flight. Another masterpiece built on great soccer played on a sunny Californian summer in front of enthusiastic parents and friends. FC Blades Girls U13 Capture The Rangers Classic

The FC Blades GU13 95 team won the Fullerton Ranger’s Classic Championship, their first tournament as a U13 team. The Blades captured the title by defeating the Fullerton Rangers Blue squad 3-1. Janna Purcell was named the MVP of the game by the coach of the Fullerton Rangers.  Coach Tim Woodcock hoisted the first place trophy over his head to the applause of the team and their parents proclaiming that “He believes that this is just the start of many promising events that he foresees for this squad”.         More ....

Tim Woodcock came to Orange County and the FC Blades eight years ago after stints as an academy community coach for Derby County, England.  A native of Burton on Trent, England, Woodcock took over as the Blades'  technical director and coach of three teams, and he searched for a method to provide some positive results.  He hit upon the idea of inviting old friends from England that were involved with English professional clubs to Irvine to share a different style of play with soccer players in Southern California. FC Blades Girls U12 Win Irvine Classic Championship

FC Blades GU12 96 kicked off their summer campaign by winning the Irvine Summer Classic in sweltering conditions. The girls won their first ever tournament by defeating SCSC Avalanche 3-2 on PK's after the game was tied in regulation, 1-1. The girls held their nerve by converting 3 out of 4 penalty kicks while goalkeeper Carly Agopian capped a fine tournament by saving a pk in the shootout. The girls played their best soccer in the championship game and fully deserved their victory thanks in part to a wonderful team performance.  More... 

BU12 Irvine Memorial Classic Champions

BU12 kicked off their summer training with a warm up at the Irvine Memorial Classic Tournament at UCI on the Memorial Holiday weekend. It was an impressive outing and a great start for Coach Neil Payne's new look Silver Elite team - debuting six new players for 2008/09 season. Blades took its first Championship win for the season with emphatic wins over Elite S L Nighthawks 3:0; Carlsbad Wave Black 7:0; RSM Storm 6:0 and 7:1 against SC del Sol White Xtreme in the final. Congratulations to all the boys and good luck in the season ahead. 

FC Blades Girls U10 Wins Championship

The FC Blades Girls Under-10 team won the Coast Soccer League Spring Cup Championship game this weekend with a 1-0 win over Corona United SC.  On the way to the finals, the team conceded no goals beating America United SC 3-0, FC Long Beach Surf 1-0, and So Cal Rush 2-0.  Throughout the tournament, all of the girls put forth a great effort. The team includes Chiny Chambers, Rosario Clark, Emily Gess, Claire Howard, Michelle Maddox, Shannon Morris, Rhea Pausule, Taylor Rasmussen, Chloe Rice, Michelle Riddle, Gigi Woodall and Bianca Zavala.

Congratulations Robert Knights!!! Selected to the Cal South Young Olympians Pool.

Congratulations to Robert Knights, BU12, on his selection to the Cal South Young Olympians Pool. Over the next 12 months Robert will have additional training with elite players from all over Southern California all looking for places on the ODP player pools for 2009/10 season and the chance to play for the strong CalSouth State Association. Robert came over to California from Bristol, England in 2004 and has played for the Blades B96 team for the last four seasons. Good Luck Robert!!

F.C.Blades Given MVP Award by Sports Gifts Charity For a Second Year

Once again The F.C. Blades, a non-profit, competitive soccer club in Irvine received the "MVP Award " from Sports Gift for its outstanding support and generosity during 2007. This is the second year in a row that the Blades have received recognition following receiving the award in 2006.

Sports Gift is a charity that collects and then distributes gently used soccer equipment to impoverished children throughout the world. The equipment generously donated by F.C. Blades families made its way to children in Africa, Mexico and the US!  Both Tim Woodcock, Director of Player Development and Ben Forey, Academy Director for the FC Blades are committed to ensuring that all children have the opportunity to play sports. The F.C. Blades also endorses the important link between team sports and life in general, promoting hard work, commitment, education and sports related community service for all its players. Congratulations FC Blades and continued success on and off the field in 2008.
